A German driver's license cannot be directly used in China.

Foreigners who enter the country for a short stay of no more than three months (inclusive) can apply for a temporary driving permit valid for three months to drive "self-brought temporary entry motor vehicles" or "leased Chinese motor vehicles".

If the period of stay or residence exceeds three months, the validity period can be extended to one year.

To handle relevant business, you need to bring your passport, German driver's license and its Chinese translation to the public security vehicle management service window to apply and have your photo taken. After participating in the education and study on Chinese road traffic laws and regulations organized by the traffic police department, you can obtain your certificate on the spot.
